Fly to the Flinders Ranges - 2 Day
For the ultimate Flinders experience, and if time is of the essence, there is nothing like flying. The scenery is awe-inspiring from the air. The Flinders Ranges are spectacular in their beauty and ancient history. They provide one of the richest habitats for Australia's native animals. There are few experiences that can compare with the rugged gorges and ridge tops forming a backdrop for the myriad of kangaroos, wallabies and emus that live here. Remote, rugged, real Australia - you won't get better than this. An unforgettable experience and talking point that will be the envy of your friends back home.
Day 1 - Fly to the Hawker all weather airstrip, right in the heart of the Flinders. Spend the day on a 4WD tour of the Wilpena Pound region driving in the picturesque tree-lined Bunyeroo Gorge then marvel at the changing colour as you travel through the 'corridor in time' at Brachina Gorge. You will be personally guided with an expert of the region through the habitats of Emus, Kangaroos and Reptiles where you may also spot the rare and beautiful Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies. See the earliest living animal fossils (630 million years old) in the world. Many species of birds also inhabit this region, ranging from brightly coloured Ringed Neck Parrots through to the magnificent Wedge-tail eagle, Australia's largest bird of prey. Enjoy lunch at the Prairie Hotel. This historic Outback pub situated along the original Old Ghan Railway Line has an international reputation for its cuisine, in particular, their two signature dishes 'The Feral Mixed Grill' and the ' Feral Antipasto' (other meals available). To really experience the majesty of this region we fly you from the Leigh Creek airstrip over Aboriginal land and the Gammon Ranges National Park to discover the geological wonderland that is the Northern Flinders Ranges. Tonight's accommodation is at the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. On a clear night, which is most nights, the jewels of the southern sky can be viewed not just with the naked eye, but also through one of the two best privately owned telescopes in the southern hemisphere at the Arkaroola Observatory.

This journey takes you along a 4WD track that traverses some of the most diverse and dramatic scenery in Australia. Rugged peaks towering above outback plains. Cool creeks and mysterious waterholes sparkling within jagged gorges. Be sure to have your camera at the ready. After lunch, you are escorted to Balcanoona Stations all weather airstrip then flown back to Adelaide. An easy and relaxing way to experience the very best.
