EX SOUTH BOUND GHAN
See it all. A full day at Coober Pedy. Experience underground lifestyle and mines. Visit the Breakaways (Painted Desert). Pass through the dog fence and cross the Moon Plains to William Creek where we meet up with the original old Ghan railway line on the Oodnadatta track. Over the next 3 days we follow the old Ghan line through the harsh unchanged outback country it once operated in. A real adventure! Includes 2 nights in Coober Pedy, out to Lake Eyre, over night in the Marree Hotel, off to the magnificent Flinders Ranges staying at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and the Prairie Hotel. Then to Adelaide through the Clare Valley wine region.
After dining on the Ghan you are welcomed at Manguri Railway Siding and transferred to Coober Pedy.

DAY 2 - Depart on a trip through the real Australian outback to see all the BIG icons. Cross the Moon Plains and the longest fence in the world, the Dog Fence, which stretches more than 5300 kilometres from the Great Australian Bight to the foothills of Queenslands Bunya Mountains. Drive through Anna Creek cattle station, the largest cattle station (single land holding) in the world, some 24,000 square kilometres. Anna Creek is quoted 'bigger than Belgium'. See Lake Cadibarrawirracanna, the longest place name in Australia. Then on to the famous William Creek Hotel for a bite of lunch. Follow the Oodnadatta Track (Old Ghan Line) and see the artesian mound springs (water volcanoes), see Australia's largest salt lake, Lake Eyre (quoted as 10 times the size of Singapore). The last stop for the day is at the Marree Hotel. This town is at the start of the Birdsville Stock Route (Birdsville Track).

There will be time in the Nepabunna/Iga Warta Communities area to talk with local aboriginals and learn about bush-tucker, while hearing tales of their history and creation stories. From here we make our way into the rugged Gammon Ranges of the Northern Flinders. These are the most rugged ranges in Australia and the Arkaroola Wilderness sanctuary is today's destination. At Arkaroola you have the opportunity to enjoy an Observatory tour (own cost) or just relax over an extended dinner.
